Agilent Technologies invited LSI and Dr. James Kaufman to speak at a Laboratory Management Forum in Beijing. The forum was attended by 150 lab managers from throughout China. Dr. Kaufman spoke on “Creating a More Effective Lab Safety Program” and distributed copies of the Mandarin version of LSI’s “Laboratory Safety Guidelines” (free copies are available on request).
Agilent Technologies is a world-wide leader in analytical instrumentation
for laboratories. They are a 1999
spin-off of Hewlett-Packard. A second
management forum is planned for next year in Shanghai for 300 lab managers.

LSI coming to Kuching in May 2012!
On the 29th-30th May 2012, LSI will be hosting a 2-day training session on laboratory and chemical safety in Kuching, Malaysia. Topics discussed include: fire control, labeling, biological and animal hazards, handling glassware, personal protective equipment, ventilation and chemical handling, to name just a few. Dr. James Kaufman has trained over 70,000 scientists and science educators from around the world, and teaches simple and inexpensive things which can prevent many unnecessary accidents from happening.  | LAB TECH 2011October 9-12, 2012 Place: Doha, Qatar at the Ritz Carlton LSI Director Dr. James Kaufman traveled to the Middle East this week to give a keynote address at the LAB TECH 2011 conference. This was the second LAB TECH conference, the first back in 2008 was held in Bahrain where the Gulf Cost Countries Lab Managers Association was founded (GCC). This years conference featured sixty exhibitors from twenty countries world wide. There was three hundred and fifty participants in attendance. Dr. Kaufman's keynote address was titled "Leadership in Safety: the Lab Managers role". After the speeches, a panel discussion was held where Dr. Kaufman addressed concerns regarding training and qualifications of lab managers. The next LAB TECH conference will be held in Kuwait in 2013. |

LSI Asia Pacific Office Launched by GRAIN
LSI welcomes the opportunity to work with GRAIN (Global Research and Information Network) to extend out efforts to promote safety in science education in the Asia-Pacific region. GRAIN is also assisting ICASE (International Council for Associations of Science Education, www.icaseonline.net, with their 2013 conference in Sarawak, Borneo.
The Laboratory Safety Institute will be holding its 2nd International Conference on Safety in Science Education in conjunction with the 2013 ICASE conference.
