Dow Sponsors LSI Training and Resource Library

The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) is pleased to announce the receipt of a gift from Dow. The gift will support Teacher Lab Safety Training Scholarships and LSI’s Online Lab Safety Resource Library.  The Dow Chemical Company and the Dow Education Foundation have supported LSI and safety in science education since LSI’s founding in 1970.  In fact, for over 100 years, Dow has been committed to education and the innovation that results from this support.

Dow believes that “the future of the United States depends on its ability to prepare the next generation to be innovators in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), yet far too few students are prepared for the challenges ahead.”

“[Dow also] believes the U.S. education system should lead the world. Our nation's science, technology, engineering and math training was once a U.S. strength. Dow has a goal to help return the nation to its leadership position by supporting transformational initiatives that make a difference for our students and academic institutions. Dow invests in, and addresses, obstacles to success through partnerships with private organizations and the U.S. administration.”

Dow supports a variety of very worthwhile programs in science education.  To learn more about Dow’s commitments to education, visit their website at: http://www.dow.com/education/index.htm

The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) is proud to be one of Dow’s partners in this initiative. Dow is currently funding 75% tuition scholarships for LSI’s laboratory safety training to school teachers in Dow site communities. In addition to these scholarships, Dow is funding the production of an online resource library for safety in school science and technology. Production is underway, with a projected launch of March 2012. If you would like to share a school science safety resource to be considered for this library, please email your suggestion to Andrealee Burgess. As a gift for sharing your resource, we will give you a one year electronic subscription to our Newsletter, "Speaking of Safety".

It is LSI’s mission to make safety an important and integral part of education, work and life. LSI believes safety is key to ensuring the success of our next generation of innovators in science, technology, engineering, and math.

LSI recognizes that teachers and school districts may have considerable financial constraints for out-of-district training, especially from remote schools.  For this reason, we will provide additional assistance for up to five teachers. This will include a 100% tuition scholarship. If you feel that your situation merits this award, please provide an explanation (less than 150 words) on school letterhead and signed by administration.
